Today, we're going one step further in terms of sustainable development by using electric buses to link the hotels in Brussels to the festival site in Boom. "We are the only bus company in our country able to offer electric vehicles for tourist transport at the moment," explains Koen Ronsmans, Operations Manager at Keolis in Brussels. "We are planning a total of 120 buses to transport Tomorrowland visitors, five of which are now fully electric. Each electric bus can carry 56 passengers and cover a total distance of 350 km. Thanks to a rotation system, we can ensure that the buses are recharged at the right time and that transport is always available. Thanks to our drivers and our Tomorrowland team, everything is running smoothly on site again this year."
Transport from all over the country
For the first time this year, Tomorrowland is providing electric buses to enable festival-goers to travel to Boom from 48 different locations across the country. The scheme is in line with a number of festivals seeking to solve the problem of traffic jams entering and leaving the festival. For visitors from further afield in particular, this is proving to be an attractive alternative to public transport. Keolis, which is the market leader in bus transport for festivals, notes that twice as many festivals are using long-distance bus services thanks to its Event-Shuttle service compared with last year.
In total, Tomorrowland welcomes some 400,000 festival-goers from all over the world.
"Route between hotels and festival site is ideal"
"The route between the hotels and the festival site is ideal for using our electric buses. Although it's a ‘limited’ offer for the moment, it's a first step towards sustainable transport. What's more, the roof of our depot is fitted with solar panels, allowing us to run even more ecologically by using solar energy."
