From truck to bus

Switching from truck driving to bus driving

Do you want a new life after years of driving a truck? Is the truck driver’s life just not for you anymore? But you’d also like to stay on the road? Then becoming a bus driver is exactly what you need! If necessary, we can give you a refresher course for your D driving licence. We can help you even if you don’t yet have a bus driving licence. Register and partake in a free training course in our Keolis Drivers Academy.

Many drivers have done it already! Robert and Maaike were truck drivers in a previous life, but chose to spend more time with family and friends. They exchanged their truck for a bus and have never regretted their decision.

As a public bus driver for Keolis, I know my schedule well in advance. This allows me to make plans with my family, and I have more time for them in the evenings

The profession of bus driver is much less stressful than my previous job as a truck driver. As a school bus driver, you’re also at home during the holidays. It’s wonderful to then be able to spend 100% of my time with my children.

Now that I’m a bus driver, my working day is no longer unexpectedly extended, and I know in advance when I’ll be home. Of course, my family was also delighted about that!

The parents trust us with their children. You really feel responsible for them, and so driving safely to the destination is my priority.

Drivers license & formation

  • Yes you can, if you have a valid D driving licence. Do you only have a C driving licence? Then we can help you obtain your bus driving licence through a training course in our Keolis Drivers Academy.

  • Each job has its own advantages and disadvantages. You won’t hear us say that one is better than the other. What we can say is that bus drivers have a lot of social contact with their passengers and colleagues, know their schedule in advance and can therefore easily make plans with their families. These are not our words, but the words of former truck drivers who made the switch and now love their new situation.

  • A good bus driver, of course, firstly needs a valid D driver's license. Otherwise, the qualities to be a good bus driver or and truck driver aren’t all that different. You are punctual, flexible and customer-friendly. In addition, you obviously like to be on the road. What does differ is your "load". You’re now driving with people instead of goods. So the safety of your passengers is your number one priority.

  • No, if you have both a C and a D licence, you already have a lot of experience with large vehicles. But you start with a test drive, just like for every driver who starts at Keolis. If necessary or desired, we can give you a free refresher course at the Keolis Drivers Academy before you actually start.
