In Australia, Keolis Downer successfully introduced KeoRide as a first and last mile solution, adding a simple connection with public transport with short waiting times. The drivers pick up the customer from home, a pick-up point or a local bus stop. Passenger cars are used to transport small groups quickly. The main advantage of this model is that no extra parking needs to be created and that the customer only needs to walk short distances.
Public transport
Again in Australia, KeoRide was integrated as a public transport solution in a 7.5 km2 area around an industrial estate. Employees are picked up at home or at an agreed place and transported to and from the company. This type of on-demand transport makes it possible to collect a group of people and take them to their separate destination point. Like carpooling, this service encourages people to exchange their cars for a new form of commuter transport to work or university. Some of the advantages are that no parking needs to be provided or paid for and people spend less time travelling on public transport.
