As the largest private passenger transport company in Belgium, Keolis is a safety role model. The driver, passengers and other road users all have to feel safe when a Keolis bus passes by.
This is why Keolis is running a pilot project with adaptive cruise control or ACC. Like standard cruise control, ACC ensures that a vehicle keeps driving at a constant speed. The big difference lies in the A for adaptive. The system uses a sensor in the front of the vehicle. When a coach approaches another vehicle ahead, its speed will adjust automatically and it will slow down. When the vehicle ahead changes lanes, the coach will automatically accelerate to the pre-set speed again.
This system reduces rear-end collisions by 20% and increases driver comfort by guaranteeing a safe distance from vehicles ahead and by making driving less strenuous.
